How much does Laser Treatment Cost?

How much does Laser Treatment Cost?

Laser for nail fungus is not covered by any medical insurance plan. Your initial consultation and biopsy when needed are usually covered.

2013 09 30 Best priced laser for nail fungus NYC p01We charge $600 for the laser. If there is any question whether the nails have fungus or not, we will do a biopsy at your initial visit and you will have to come back for the laser if the biopsy is positive.

If we do the biopsy we will charge you insurance if you have it and we take it, or charge you $50 for the consult. The laboratory also takes insurance and if you do not have insurance they will charge you $50 as well.

If it turns out that you do not have nail fungus, we will not do the laser and the $50 charge is your only responsibly to us. The lab will not return their $50.

If you do have fungus and we proceed with laser treatment, simply deduct the $50 consult charge from the $600 being charged for the procedure.

If you have a flex spending account or a medical savings account, those funds can be usually be used to pay for the services we provide.

Our laser treatment costs $600, which includes three treatments, or three single visits using the laser.

Most people will see improvement after three visits. Many places charge $600 per visit, so some of our clients look at our pricing as paying for one and getting two free! We do require the $600 payment to be completed prior to our services on the first visit for laser. Cash or cards are acceptable forms of payment.

If after three treatments the doctors think that you will benefit from additional laser treatments the cost will be $100 per laser after the initial three. Often, this is the case where most of the nail has grown out but not all of it. We are ethical doctors and if we feel that additional lasers will not benefit you, we will tell you not to spend the additional money. To date, the most laser procedures we have done is 10. This was at a cost of $600 for the initial three lasers and $700 for the next seven lasers for a total of $1,300. Considering many doctors in NYC charge $1,200 for one treatment, I’d say we are the most fairly priced laser for nail fungus in NYC. BTW: after 10 lasers, he was cured!

Am I candidate for laser for nail fungus?

The very first step in the procedure is to figure out if the patient is a good candidate for laser toenail fungus treatment.

After a consultation has been arranged, the patient will come to the office and we will evaluate the condition of the toenails.

Am I a candidate for nail fungus laser p01If there is any question as to whether you have fungal nails or not, we will do a painless biopsy. The nail clipping gets sent to our lab to see if there is fungus in the nail.

Am I a candidate for nail fungus laser p02If the biopsy is negative we will tell you that the laser will not work. If we decide that laser treatment is not the best option for your unique situation, we will let you know. We do not perform lasers on people that can’t be cured by the treatment, or would have more success being treated in a different manner. If laser treatment is not the best course of action, we will help you figure out the best way to treat your nail condition. It’s important to make sure the condition really is fungus before treating with a laser or the treatments won’t be successful.

If we determine that the problem is fungus, laser treatment can start immediately.  If a biopsy is needed, the results take about one week to get back to our office and treatment will begin right after that.

There are actually several problems that resemble fungus, but are in fact not fungus at all. Treating a problem that isn’t fungus with a laser is a waste of time and money; it’s something ethical doctors avoid. Our goal is to help you with your nail condition as quickly and effectively as possible, even if it means we do not perform the laser.

My results with Cutera Laser for Toenail Fungus 2013

Results of my Cutera patients treated for nail fungus.

I have been completing treatment for toenail fungus with a laser since the technology was first available on the market…

How it Started: Pin Pointe Laser (a false start)

Pin Pointe with Line Through It Cutera is BetterWhen the technology first came out I was not very impressed with the results of the laser procedure. Only about half of my patients saw results after a treatment and the cost was high, $1200 per treatment! This was something I discussed with each patient prior to the service being completed and even with the 50% success rate; several people were willing to try the procedure.

The newest Cutera Laser: Lower price, More favorable outcome!

Cutera is Better than pin pointe. jpgWhen the Cutera Genesis laser came out, the laser nail fungus treatment was revolutionized. The Cutera is 80 watts strong compared to the original PinPointe’s 4 watts. This means the results are better and the treatment much faster. I also discovered that utilizing topical treatments with laser procedures is the best and most effective means of treating nail fungus. It has also come to my attention that most people need three treatments to get results they are happy with. The new laser, combination treatment, and increase from one treatment to three has increased success rates to about 70%, which is just below antifungal medicines such as Lamisil. However, lasers do not come with the same side effects. In fact, lasers are much safer and easier. Today I can do a series of three treatments for just $600.

We use the most advanced Laser for nail fungus:

The Cutera Genesis Laser is 80 Watts. This is 20 times more powerful than the first generation of FDA approved lasers for nail fungus. The Cutera Genesis 1064nm laser is a safe and effective option for treatment of nail fungus.

The heat generated by the laser penetrates deep inside the nail where the fungus resides. It kills the fungus that causes nail disease (Dermatophytes). It is relatively painless. Most patients report feeling some heat and occasional discomfort. The heat does not damage the surrounding skin.

The laser procedure is done in our office and takes 20-40 minutes depending on how many nails are effected.

No anesthesia or pain killers are necessary and patients may return to normal activity and work immediately after the procedure with zero down-time.
